Letter entitled "BURNING RUBBISH"
Gan Island Post 19th May 1972

On Thursday last, cardboard boxes and other rubbish was being burned in three dustbins outside Block 17
(W.O's Block). The resulting smoke and nauseating stench from the burning rubbish and from the paint
burning on the outside of the bins was blown into adjacent Blocks -very unpleasant for the occupants.
I was under the impression that it was not permissible for rubbish to be burned in the domestic area - in any
case it should be discouraged. It would have been a simple matter for this rubbish to be taken to the
incinerator on the other side of the airfield, where it's disposal would have hindered nobody.
I consider a nuisance has been caused, one which should not be allowed to recur.
